Ross 128 is a small star in the equatorial zodiac constellation of Virgo, the virgin. The distance of this star from Earth is 10.89 light-years making it the twelfth closest star to the Solar System. It was first cataloged in 1926 by American astronomer Frank Elmore Ross. On May 12 2017, researchers picked up mysterious signals using the Arecibo Observatory, a huge radio telescope built inside of a Puerto Rican sinkhole and on July 16, 2017, once again strange signals came from Ross 128. METI's Optical SETI Observatory in Panama has scanned this star several times in the past for brief laser pulses, all without results, but now scientists with the SETI (Search for Extraterrestrial Intelligence) Institute have already starting again observing Ross 128 using the Allen Telescope Array, a network of 42 radio dishes in northern California, said Seth Shostak, a senior astronomer at the SETI Institute. Ross 128 is not known to have planets and there were some very mysterious signals
