“I am writing in response for your request for additional information in block #3 in the accident report, trying to do the job alone as the cause of my accident. You said in your letter that I should explain more fully, and I trust that the following details would be sufficient.

I am a bricklayer by trade and on the date of the accident I was working alone on the roof of a new 6-story building. When I completed my work I discovered I had about 500 lbs of bricks left over, rather than carry the bricks left over by hand I decided to lower them in a barrel by using a pulley which fortunately was attached to the side of the building at the 6th floor. Securing the rope at the ground level I went to the roof, swung the barrel out and loaded the bricks into it. Then I went back to the ground and untied the rope. Holding it tightly to ensure a slow decent of the 500 lbs of brick.

Now you will note in block #2 of the accident report form I weigh 135 lbs. Due to my surprise at being jerked off the ground so suddenly I lost my presence of mind and forgot to let go of the rope, needless to say I proceeded at a rather rapid rate up the side of the building. In the vicinity of the 3rd floor, I met the barrel coming down, this explains the fractured skull and broken collarbone. Slowed only slightly I continued my rapid accent, not stopping till my fingers of my right hand were two knuckles deep in the pulley. Fortunately by this time I had regained my presence of mind and was able to hold tightly to the rope, in spite of my pain. At approximately the same time however the barrel of bricks hit the bottom and the bottom fell out of the barrel. Devoid of the weight of bricks the barrel weighs 50lbs. I refer you to my weight in block #2 of the accident report form, as you might imagine I began a rapid decent down the side of the building.

Somewhere in the vicinity of the 3rd floor, I again met the barrel coming up. this accounts for the two fractured ankles and the lacerations of my legs and body. The encounter with the barrel slowed me enough to lessen my injuries when I fell onto the pile of bricks and fortunately only 3 vertebrae were cracked. I am sorry to report however, that as I lay there on the bricks, in pain unable to move and watching the empty barrel 6 stories above me, I again lost my presence of mind and let go the rope. The empty barrel weighing more than the rope, so it came down and broke both my legs. Now I hope I have furnished the information you required as how the accident occurred, you see, I was trying to do the job alone”.

You are going to encounter many obstacles trying to survive by yourself, like gangs going house to house looking for their next meal and there is no way you will be able to fight them off even if you have an array of weapons. Getting help and having a commune of many people is far better.

Having lots of people means there will be many skill sets that you and your family will come to rely on. The ideal amount of people to have around you is about 150, some will have guns and will be able to fend off any intruders, some will have medical skills, some will know how to farm, some will be able to build things that you will need, so don’t fall onto a pile of bricks because it will be all over for you and your family. Remember it is easier to stay alive in a group than going solo.

Stay safe
