4.7 Magnitude Earthquake Hits Soledad California




A 4.7 magnitude earthquake centered about 17 miles southeast of Hollister was recorded Monday morning at 11:31 a.m., according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

The temblor was centered about 8.7 miles northwest of Pinnacles National Park, according to the USGS.

Meteorologists with the National Weather Service in Monterey reported on Twitter they felt the quake in their office. There were also anecdotal accounts of people in Cupertino and as far away as San Francisco who felt the temblor.

The origin of the earthquake was located along the San Andreas Fault. The San Benito County Sheriff’s Office said there were no immediate reports of serious injuries or damage related to the earthquake.
