Intense Seismic Activity Near Coquimbo and Antofagasta, Chile. Next Big One Ahead?
On February 24, 2016, 7 moderately strong earthquakes struck near Coquimbo. A day after a strong M5.3 quake hit near Antofagasta.

A series of earthquakes hit the region of Coquimbo on Wednesday February 24, 2016.
M4.7 – 33km SW of Ovalle, Chile
M4.5 – 23km SE of La Serena, Chile
M4.6 – 53km W of Coquimbo, Chile
M4.6 – 33km W of Coquimbo, Chile
M3.9 – 65km NW of Illapel, Chile
M4.1 – 85km W of Illapel, Chile
M4.0 – 90km WSW of Coquimbo, Chile
And today a strong M5.2 quake hit a bit norther up near Antofagasta.
M5.2 – 72km S of Calama, Chile
The power of these earthquakes weren’t strong enough to generate a tsunami off the coast of Chile.

But could they announce another 2010 earthquake?
The 2010 great earthquake (Magnitude 8.8 on Richter) ejected so much energy that another earthquake at the same area is highly unlikely, say scientists.
I just want to point out that four days ago another strong M5.9 earthquake hit Ovalle again in the same area of Chile. And in September 2015 an M8.3 earthquake created a tsunami that completely destroyed parts of Coquimbo…
