Mars Colony Could Save Humanity from Extinction When World War 3 Breaks Out, Warns Elon Musk
While I sincerely appreciate that someone with Elon Musk’s wealth is using his money to do things to help humanity rather than just hoard and increase his own wealth, I worry that even if we do get a Mars colony or Moon colony we (certain humans) will just continue to do there what they’ve been doing on Earth, that is to lie, cheat and steal for self gain rather than for the bettering of all life thus repeating the cycle that would eventually lead back to the same destruction. That said, I still wish that his endeavors are successful.. we can at least try and hope for a better outcome. But I will say, if it is to save us from extinction, he may have to hurry this project along!

The entrepreneur said based on the human race’s track record another global conflict is imminent and it could plunge us into the next “dark ages”.
Mr Musk also emphasised he founded SpaceX in 2002 to start colonies on other planets and said that making this leap now would make us less vulnerable to extinction.
He highlighted the human race’s inability to get along with each other as another factor to justify settling on the moon and Mars.
Speaking at SXSW festival in Austin, Texas earlier this month Mr Musk said: “Last century, we had two massive world wars — three if you count the Cold War.
“I think it’s unlikely that we’ll never have another world war again.
“Then we want to make sure that there’s enough of a seed of human civilisation somewhere else to bring civilisation back and perhaps shorten the length of the dark ages.
“I think a moon base and a Mars base that could perhaps help regenerate life back here on Earth would be really important, and to get that done before a possible World War 3.”
Mr Musk added that a base on Mars would be better than on the moon because it is further away from Earth.
SpaceX is already developing the huge BFR – Big Falcon Rocket or Big F****** Rocket – and says it will ready by 2019.
Mr Musk said at a conference in Australia last September: “We’re actually building that ship right now.
“I think we’ll probably be able to do short flights, short sort of up-and-down flights, probably sometime in the first half of next year.”
The BFR rocket will be powered by an impressive array or 31 monstrous Raptor engines and it aims to deliver the first ever cargo to Mars by 2022.
The first humans are expected to follow by 2024.
On top of the imminent danger of World War 3, Mr Musk warns that artificial intelligence (AI) is more dangerous than nuclear weapons.
He said: “The danger of AI is much greater than the danger of nuclear warheads, by a lot, and nobody would suggest that we allow anyone to just build nuclear warheads if they want. That would be insane.”
“If humanity collectively decides that creating digital superintelligence is the right move, then we should do so very, very carefully — very, very carefully.
“This is the most important thing that we can possibly do.”
