Skepticism Continues to Surround Pentagon’s New UFO Office

Not everyone is convinced that the new office will end the secrecy surrounding the phenomenon.
When the Pentagon announced last year that it was establishing a brand new office dedicated to finding the truth behind the UFO phenomenon, reactions were mixed to say the least.
While many welcomed the move and hailed it as an end to the secrecy that has surrounded UFO investigation for many decades, others were deeply skeptical – instead suggesting that the move could bring about the complete opposite, with UFO data being harder to access than ever.
“This is a subject with a provable history of secrecy, and anything that lacks a new openness about the information is subject to more, possibly inappropriate control,” said MUFON’s Ron James.
“We don’t see that this means new resources will be dedicated to the matter. We believe that considerable resources have always been dedicated to the matter at some level inside deep government and industry.”
Last year, Luis Elizondo – who previously headed up a unit that was responsible for assessing military UFO reports – also expressed his concerns surrounding the move.
“If we want 70 more years of secrecy on this topic, then the Office of the Under Secretary of Defense for Intelligence and Security is the perfect place to put it,” he said.
“They’ve had four years so far, and we have little in the way of efforts serving the public interest.”
Lobbyist Stephen Bassett, however, remains confident in the new office.
“No, this isn’t a new psyops program. It is a planned effort to end the truth embargo,” he said.
“While I appreciate those who are skeptical, that group has tried to find the dark side of every development – the hidden hand.”
“This is a sea change brought about by the work of thousands of people and activists over 70 years. But some of these people can’t help but see it as a clever black ops mission.”
As things stand, it looks like we will just have to wait and see how things pan out over the next few years.
