“Teeth-Chattering” Cold and Snowy Winter, Predicted by Farmer’s Almanac

This seems to be the prediction for all parts of the world that experience winter season.

The 2018-19 Farmer’s Almanac was published Monday and it’s safe to say that heavy winter coats, window scrapers and plenty of hot chocolate will be needed for much of the winter.

This year’s almanac is predicting that winter 2018 will be “Colder-than-normal from the Continental Divide east through the Appalachians.”

“Contrary to the stories storming the web, our time-tested, long-range formula is pointing toward a very long, cold, and snow-filled winter. We stand by our forecast and formula, which accurately predicted the many storms last winter, as well as this summer’s steamy, hot conditions,” said Editor Peter Geiger.

Geiger said it’s likely that snow will begin in December and wintry conditions will delay the onset of spring into late March.

Frigid weather is expected in mid-February, which could bring blustery and bitter winds and widespread snow showers, including for Virginia’s zone (southeast region).

Mid-March could be stormy virtually coast to coast, bringing snow, sleet, and/or rain as well as strong and gusty winds to many areas, the almanac predicts.

“In particular, we are red-flagging March 20–23 for a potent East Coast storm that could deliver a wide variety of wintry precipitation just as we are making the transition from winter to spring. So, no matter what the groundhog says in February, you’ll know winter isn’t going anywhere anytime soon,” Geiger says.
