NOSTRADAMUS’ predictions have baffled scientists for decades and as the year comes to an end, here is a look at everything the French mystic was right about.

Michel de Nostredame was a 16th century apothecary and seer whose many claims to fame include foretelling the rise of Adolf Hitler and Donald Trump’s presidential election.

The prophet from Southern France left his mark on history in 1555 with the publication of his magnum opus, Les Propheties, which many believe holds the keys to seeing the future.

Conspiracy theorists who have studied Nostradamus’ supposed passages about the Great Fire of London and the creation of the atomic bomb are now concerned about future calamities that threaten the world.

Following a year of intense political and armed turmoil, conspiracists are pointing towards signs foretelling impeding global cataclysms and the threat of World War 3.

Nostradamus predictions which have come true:

Donald Trump’s triumph in the 2016 US Presidential Elections – Some believe that Nostradamus’ Century III, quatrain 81, foretold the victory of President Trump in the 2016 elections.

The quatrain reads: “The great shameless, audacious bawler,

“He will be elected governor of the army:

“The boldness of his contention,

“The bridge broken, the city faint from fear.”

Others have also interpreted Century VIII, quatrain 15, to contain a reference to Mr Trump’s fervent election rival Hillary Clinton.

The passage says: “The masculine woman will exert herself to the north,

“She will annoy nearly all of Europe and the rest of the world.

“Two failures will put her in such an imbalance,

“That both life and death will strengthen Eastern-Europe.”

The Rise of Adolf Hitler
The prophet’s most iconic prediction is believed to be found in the following quatrain: “From the depths of the West of Europe,

“A young child will be born of poor people.

“He who by his tongue will seduce a great troop;

“His fame will increase towards the realm of the East.”

Nostradamus’ cult followers interpret the “young child” to be none other than Hitler, whose rise to power in the 1930s cast terror over Europe and led to the outbreak of World War 2.

The Great Fire of London in 1666
Nostradamus’ staunch believers are also adamant that Les Propheties warned Londoners about the Great Fire more than a century before it happened.

The passage in question is: “The blood of the just will be lacking in London,

“Burnt up in the fire of ’66:

“The ancient Lady will topple from her high place,

“Many of the same sect will be killed.”

The atomic bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki in 1945
In August 1945, the US unleashed the devastating power of the atom on the Japanese industrial hubs of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, in a bid to end the Pacific theatre of war in WW2.

But some have pointed out that Nostradamus may have warned this would happen nearly 500 years in advance of the devastating events.

The specific quatrain believed to contain the clues, reads: “Near the gates and within two cities

“There will be scourges the like of which was never seen,

“Famine within plague, people put out by steel,

“Crying to the great immortal God for relief.”

Nostradamus predictions that are yet to pass:
The outbreak of World War 3

The world appeared poised on the brink of war throughout 2017, as the sabre rattling between the US and North Korea escalated to unprecedented levels.

Conspiracists who observed the unfolding events with horror, were convinced that they were the tell-tale signs of a global conflict between the East and West, as predicted by the French seer.

In 1555 Nostradamus wrote: “Twice put up and twice cast down,

“The East will also weaken the West.

“Its adversary after several battles chased by sea will fail at time of need.”

Another chilling prediction foretells the outbreak of a “big war” in the heart of Europe, drowning the world in suffering for 27 years.

Nostradamus wrote in Les Propheties: “The big war will start in France and all Europe will be attacked,

“It will be long and terrifying for everyone,

“And then finally there will be peace but only a few will enjoy it.

“A war will start between the two great world powers and it will last for a period of 27 years.”

Cataclysmic earthquakes will strike the planet

In Nostradamus’s typical vein of doom and gloom, the prophet is believed to have foretold powerful tremors that will rock Earth at some point in the month of May.

The seer wrote: “The trembling so hard in the month of May,

“Saturn, Capricorn, Jupiter, Mercury in Taurus:

“Venus also, Cancer, mars, in Virgo,

“Hail will fall larger than an egg.”

But critics say the predictions should be taken with a grain of salt claiming there is no tangible proof to support the belief that the apothecary’s writings are anything more than cryptic poems.

Brian Dunning, science writer and creator of the Skeptoid Podcast, branded Nostradamus predictions a load of bunkum and misinterpreted poems.

He said in one of his podcasts: “Michel de Nostredame was truly one of the brilliant lights of his day, but to subscribe to false stories and urban legends is to disrespect who the man actually was.

“Appreciate his contributions to medicine and Renaissance literature, and don’t trivialise his good works in favour of a pretended history of paranormal magical powers.”

Nostradamus’s works have become so ingrained into the world of conspiracy theories and urban legends that many believers have often fallen victim to hoaxes and fake passages.

In the tragic aftermath of the deadly 9/11 terror attacks in New York, a spoof Nostradamus prediction was circulated around the internet, leading many to believe it was true.

However it was later uncovered to have been written as part of a Canadian student’s research paper on the validity of prophecies.
