The Mysterious Monoliths Continue to Appear

Despite an art group claiming responsibility, more monoliths have been showing up around the world.
It’s fast turning into 2020’s biggest unexplained phenomenon – metal monoliths inspired by ‘2001: A Space Odyssey’ that have been turning up at locations across the world in recent weeks.
First there was one in Utah, then another in Romania followed by a third in California.
At the time, art collective ‘The Most Famous Artist’ claimed responsibility for the two monoliths in the United States and began selling replicas on its website for $45,000 a piece.
This doesn’t seem to have stopped the artefacts from showing up elsewhere, however, with the group seemingly denying that it has had anything to do with the monoliths that have appeared since.
“The monolith is out of my control at this point,” said group founder Matty Mo. “Godspeed to all the aliens working hard around the globe to propagate the myth.”
Earlier this month, another of the enigmatic structures appeared on a beach on the Isle of Wight, then another was found standing in the middle of a field in Baasrode, Belgium.
Further reports of monoliths have since emerged in Spain, Germany, Colombia and Texas.
At least one of these can be explained, however, thanks to artist Tom Dunford who came forward to claim that he was responsible for creating the one that was found on the Isle of Wight.
“If the aliens were to come down I think they’d go for the safest place which is the Isle of Wight in Tier 1 [Covid restrictions],” he told BBC News.
So are all the monoliths simply pieces of copycat art inspired by the original one in Utah ?
It seems that the phenomenon has taken on a life of its own.
