The Mystery of the A3 ‘Ghost Crash’

Did someone actually witness a replay of a past accident ?

via unexplained-mysteries:

A chance sighting of a car accident by a member of the public spawned an urban legend that endures to this day.

Britain’s roads and motorways are certainly no stranger to tales of the unexplained, with stories of phantom hitchhikers and tormented apparitions being commonplace along some stretches of road.

One of the most peculiar such sightings occurred on December 11th, 2002, when a member of the public called the police to report a car accident – a vehicle had been seen losing control and leaving the road on the A3 near the emergency slip road at Burpham.

When police arrived at the scene they were initially unable to find any sign of a crash, however it didn’t take them long to discover a Vauxhall Astra in a ditch nearby, obscured by the undergrowth.

Disturbingly, the remains of the driver were also discovered at the scene.

What made the tragic discovery all the stranger however was the fact that the car and the victim had seemingly been lying there undiscovered for over five months.

The deceased turned out to be a man wanted for a robbery that had taken place in July of that year.

So if the crash had occurred five months before, how did the witness see the car leaving the road ?

Could they have witnessed a ghostly replay of the accident ?

To this day, no definitive explanation has ever been found.
