Unexplained Mystery Boom and Smoldering Bushland Holes in Cairns Australia Could Be Linked
The Big Bang Theory is more than just a sitcom you play in the background while making dinner so you don’t feel so desperately alone, it’s also a mystery gripping the people of Cairns.
Residents heard a massive boom in the far north Queensland city on Saturday night and no one is quite sure what was behind it.
Around 10.30pm a loud bang echoed through the city, prompting a collective “what the bloody hell was that?”.
Local journos at The Cairns Post did their best to make sense of the sonic sound but after checking with firies, ambos and the police, there were no answers.
They spoke with someone from Ergon Energy, confirming there were no power issues in the Queensland city.
So just what in the heck could it be?
They took to Facebook asking residents for their thoughts and social media was soon abuzz.
“I initially thought it happened across the road because the boom was so loud, my son saw the bright flash from upstairs and our place shook,” Rebecca Annette said on Facebook.
“It seems what we felt, heard and saw was so far spread, the police have had no idea which street to start looking in.
“It probably hasn’t helped that the boom could have reverberated off the mountains, sending the noise further.”
The theories ranged from fighter jets to meteors to UFOs to exploding gas cylinders.
Then the plot thickened.
Video of smouldering holes in bushland behind the Edge Hill State School has emerged after Woree resident John Romanov started sniffing around.
He shared this with The Post, with journo Chris Calcino reporting that while firies attended a blaze in the bushland on Sunday night, there were no records of an explosion.
Of course this only prompted more questions.
