Samsung Patents Contact Lenses With Display and Camera: Total Surveillance
Editor’s Note: At first glance it may seem fantastic, and from a pure technology standpoint it IS, but then on the other side of things, if the phones that they make are already spying on you then what about this.. Good luck putting a piece of tape over this one.
South Korean company Samsung has patented a Google Glass killer, high-tech contact lenses that place graphics in a wearer’s field of vision, and can, with the blink of an eye, record photo and video as well.
According to reports, the contact lens will be equipped with “a tiny display, a camera, an antenna, and several sensors” to detect eye movement.
Much like the Google Glass, the new device will need to be tethered to a smartphone to function. The lenses are said to be capable of clandestinely taking photos or videos.
According to the SamMobile website, the contacts “can provide a more natural way to provide augmented reality than smart glasses.”
Interestingly, Google has a patent for electronic contact lenses that analyzes the wearer’s tears to evaluate blood sugar, providing people with diabetes a warning should their glucose levels need to be adjusted.
